Now that war is all but inevitable, one wonders what it will be like when we get to Baghdad. Will it be like the Russians in Chechnya? Or will it be like the Americans in Afghanistan, with almost no resistance.
Hopefully it's more like Steven Green predicts - the gadgets and the force multipliers and the momemtum making this a quick and painless effort. But those bets are off in a cramped, urban environment. Technology matters much less. It really depends on how badly the people and the armies want to fight. Is it arrogance to assume that they'll just roll over because they don't like Saddam either?
Salon.com: Outsourcing Rejection:
What I learned at the Phone Center was that people don't really use middlemen like me out of necessity; they use us to keep their hands clean and their offices tidy.
An interesting trend - when you hire someone to say no for you to someone who wants a job.
I can imagine the same trend taking off in the dating world. Are you taller than 5 foot six? Good. Smoker? No? Excellent. Where do you work? Can we call your employer to verify your employment history? We need to run a credit report. How many children do you want? Oh, one last thing: do you like cats? When would you like her to call you? Seven o'clock to seven fifteen tomorrow evening? Okay.
Wow. Linux for the iPod:

That gets me closer to my dream of having an iPod that will use the wheel to do pitch and speed modulation to mp3 files. (Scratching effects would also be cool.) If I could do that, I could sell one to every DJ in the country.
