Read a fascinating article in the Economist about a reporter who hitched a ride on a beer truck in Cameroon. The 314 mile trip took four days and stopped at 31 roadblocks set up by police. The biggest reason third-world countries are so poor is the infrastructure. The lesson here:
In short, the governments of poor countries out to pay more attention to their roads. A good first step . . . would be to lift those roadblocks and put the police to work repairing potholes.
